Halving Your Equipment Spending
The challenge I find for buyers is they ask me for a quote for one item delivered to them as if it’s a t-shirt from Amazon. The reality is that I sell our items at a fixed low price, but they need to ship. If you are a smaller entity and you are just buying one time this year, that’s probably the right move. If you are a large entity with 30+ jobs running, you should just be looking at your average buy rate and then buy that at bulk. If you are a purchaser or running a large company yard, you don’t go to Home Depot to buy one 3/8 in a plastic bag because that’s all you need today. You ask yourself how many you go through in 6 months and you buy that with the advantage of bulk.
I sell crane pallet forks at $2750 delivered to you. Customs, airfreight, from the factory to the airport and to your door. It’s in your hands. If you are one guy in Wyoming, this is going to make a ton of sense. If you are a buyer for PCL with 40 cranes up in North America, it’s not efficient. I can sell the same forks for $1341 and if you buy ten or more, shipping will be closer to $350 per unit. I can literally save you $1000 per unit with this approach.
Let’s look at this another way. A 20’ container from Germany to the West Coast of the US is about $5000 all in. Fill it. 2 yard concrete bucket for $2900 with a chute? I’m in. 2.6 yard crane trash bins with automated latches for $2841.30. We can stack them four high and put crane forks in the bins if we break them into parts.
The cost of shipping looms large in the items we sell. If you are a sizeable entity, this can be mitigated. If you can think ahead at container quantities, I can roll back your prices by 20 years. That’s not even an exaggeration. I sold for another brand 15 years ago. A 4 yard crane trash bin would cost $6100 at that time. If we don’t add shipping, I’m at $4158 today. And our bin I carry today is better in a half dozen ways. It’s automation and volume.
